As an Advocacy, Outreach and Communications Specialist for the United Nations Development Programme - Programme Criticality, I rebranded the initiative’s visual identity and created a Style Guide, produced an advocacy video (above), a set of dynamic and static infographics, and launched a new website. All content and products are available in English, Spanish and French. Deliverables needed to appeal to decision-makers in humanitarian operations at the United Nations, to receive training in risk assessment, safety and security.

This project required thoughtful consideration of the UN’s visual identity, sensitivity with each choice (ie, voice over, script, translation, images to use, intentional visual cues, geo-political and cultural sensitivities), how to convey seriousness in visuals and tone while creating a compelling narrative for a highly technical subject matter and an international, multi-cultural audience. This required a great deal of listening, and speaking to stakeholders and technical experts to develop finely-tuned messaging and deliverables, demonstrating the framework’s value.

While the training was mandated by the Secretary-General, buy-in was needed to ensure implementation of training and knowledge. The outreach strategy resulted in an increase of engagement within UN agencies in the field, globally. Leaders and decision-makers within Regional Offices were trained in Programme Criticality, ensuring the safety of UN Staff worldwide.

I laid out and published the “Practitioners’ Handbook for PC Facilitators and PC Coordination in the Field” in English, Spanish and French, a tool used to train high-level UN officials in decision-making, assessing safety and risk in the field. 1,000+ copies were distributed globally.
